Prince George’s County man claims $525,000 prize

Pulling up to a gas station fuel pump only to find a broken pay-at-the-pump device sent an Upper Marlboro man on the path to a $525,000 Multi-Match  jackpot win..

The 50-year-old restaurant manager is a big fan of the Maryland Lottery’s twice-weekly Multi-Match game.

“I like that it’s a Maryland game and the jackpots, while not the millions and millions that Powerball and Mega Millions have, are pretty significant – certainly big enough for me,” he said. On Monday, July 11, the Prince George’s County resident stopped for gas at Dash In #15521 in Upper Marlboro. Because of the broken device, he made the frustrating trip into the store where he bought gas and a Multi-Match ticket for the July 11 and July 14 drawings. He played one line of his own numbers – 2, 9, 14, 16, 20 and 38 – and let the terminal quick pick two more lines of numbers.

Up early the next day and well into his morning routine, the loyal player checked the Multi-Match results online. His numbers matched the winning numbers!

“I really didn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said. “The thought that kept running through my head was, ‘This can’t be real.’ ”

He woke his wife to help confirm the win. Eventually, the couple exhausted every possible way in which they could be reading the ticket or the results incorrectly. “It took a while, but we became convinced,” he said. “What an amazing morning!”

The cash option on the jackpot was $262,500, which the couple decided to take. They plan to go on a vacation and share their good fortune with family, friends and even strangers. “We’ve been contributing our time and money to a health clinic for people with few other options,” he said. “Our next donation is going to be a doozy.”

For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, the Lottery retailer also wins! The Lottery will give Dash In at 15501 Marlboro Pike a $1,000 bonus.

A Baltimore “Birthday Girl” celebrated her special day by claiming an $825,000 Multi-Match jackpot win from the July 4 drawing.

Baltimore resident wins big in July 4 drawing

A Baltimore grandmother may never look at a refrigerator or freezer again without thinking about cold cash – $825,000, to be exact. She won the $825,000 jackpot in the July 4 Multi-Match drawing.

The lucky winner dubbed herself the ‘Birthday Girl’ after claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on her birthday, July 20.

The Lottery enthusiast, who said Multi-Match is her favorite game, has enjoyed an exciting couple of weeks. The retiree was visiting a friend in Cecil County for the Fourth of July holiday when a broken refrigerator forced her to go out for breakfast on the morning of July 4. Off she went to the Landhope Farms store located at 1252 Jacob Tome Memorial Highway in Port Deposit.

“I was starving, so I went to go get something to eat,” she said. The lucky lady decided to buy a Multi-Match ticket while waiting for her bacon, egg and cheese bagel to be made.

“I asked them if they sold Lottery tickets, and they pointed me to the kiosk, but I didn’t know how to use it,” she said. “They showed me where to put the money in and what to press.”

Concerned with having breakfast, she quickly stuffed her $2 Multi-Match ticket into her purse and didn’t think about it until the next day. The 60-something city resident checked the winning numbers on mdlottery.com as she drank a cup of coffee. Days passed before she truly believed what she saw.

“I said, ‘Oh, I have 16. Ok, there’s another one. Ok, there’s three in a row.’ They just kept coming. I thought I won $1,000,” she said. In fact, one of the three Quick Pick lines on her ticket matched all six numbers from the July 4 drawing: 2, 4, 16, 21, 27 and 34. She won a lot more than $1,000!

She took the ticket to another Lottery retailer and scanned it at the ticket checker. When the message she received from the machine didn’t tell her the amount of her prize, she asked a cashier about it.

“I said, ‘How much did I win? Is it $1,500?’ ” the lucky winner recalled. “And, she said to me, ‘Honey, you’d better sit down.’ ”

The store employees printed the winning numbers from the July 4 drawing and it all became clear: She is one of four Multi-Match jackpot winners this year and said she remains shocked at the amount of money she won. After a couple of tense weeks, lining up financial advice and trying to find an appropriate hiding place for the ticket, “Birthday Girl” was joined by a friend as she claimed the prize on her birthday.

“I had the ticket in my purse for a while, but I didn’t want to carry it around,” she said. “So then I hid it in a drawer. But, then I thought, ‘What if there’s a fire?’ So I put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. But I was worried that the cold might do something to the ink, so I finally just put it in the basement.”

The lucky winner, who has a son and grandson, said the most she had ever won before on a Lottery ticket was $20. She decided to claim her prize as an annuity, which will be paid out in equal installments over a period of 25 years. After taxes, she will receive more than $21,800 a year.

“That’s going to be my retirement,” she said. “When I get my first check, I’m going to be with friends, party on a boat and celebrate all day.”

The Landhope Farms store will celebrate as well. For selling the lucky ticket, the Cecil County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Multi-MatchStunned couple keeps win a secret until family pizza party

(Baltimore) – A Mechanicsville retiree picked up something new during a routine shopping trip at McKay’s Food & Drug in Charlotte Hall – a $775,000 jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket.

Days passed before the loyal player realized he’d won big in the Monday, Aug. 22, drawing because he and his wife were out of town visiting a family member. The retired plumber regularly buys groceries, Multi-Match and Cash4Life tickets at the St. Mary’s County store so a friend phoned the out-of-town duo when she heard the store sold the winning ticket.

“I’ve been playing Multi-Match forever, playing the same set of numbers,” he said.

In Multi-Match, players can select their own combinations of six numbers from 1 to 43, and the Lottery terminal then quick picks two additional lines of six numbers. Each set of three lines costs $2. The lucky winner purchased five lines of his regular numbers, which gave him another 10 lines randomly picked by the Lottery terminal. He bought the two-draw ticket for a total of $20 on Aug. 20. Players win the jackpot if any single line of their ticket matches all six of the numbers drawn.

When the 65-year-old checked the winning numbers using the Maryland Lottery app on his phone, he didn’t realize that it was one of the quick-pick lines that had delivered the jackpot win. He and his wife didn’t have the lucky ticket with them on their trip, so they weren’t able to check it.

“We were joking about the fact it could be us,” he said.

When they arrived home on Aug. 23, the night after the drawing, he looked closely at the ticket. His wife was packing her lunch for the next day while he carefully checked his numbers. “I said, ‘Honey, it’s us!’ ” her husband said. “She didn’t believe me.”

“He had to literally show me the ticket,” she said.

They kept their jackpot win a secret until claiming their prize at Lottery headquarters. Next on their agenda was a family pizza party so they could tell their adult kids the great news. The couple took the $425,000 cash option and plan to use it to allow the wife to retire from her job as an accountant in Charles County. They will share some of the prize with their children, give some money to charity, remodel their decades-old kitchen and put the rest of the prize in the bank.

The retailer is a winner as well. For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, McKay’s Food & Drug will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

These pool-playing Pasadena players won the $625,000 Multi-Match prize!

Wins $625,000 jackpot in Sept. 12 drawing

After getting off work and then dropping off her granddaughter to play in her first softball game, Dawn Kunnecke decided to pick up a few Multi-Match tickets from Royal Farms #183 in Pasadena.

The Anne Arundel County resident bought several quick-pick tickets for the Sept. 12 drawing in hopes of winning the jackpot, which had reached $625,000 with a cash option of $312,500. Later, when she got home, the 53-year-old watched the live drawing on television station WBAL and compared her tickets’ numbers to the winning numbers.

“I started checking my tickets as soon as the drawing came on,” said the Pasadena mom. “I had originally purchased five quick-pick random Multi-Match tickets. The first two I checked weren’t winners but then, when I got to the third one, I noticed all my numbers were matching up with what I wrote down from the drawing. That’s when I started getting a little shocked.”

Dawn immediately called in her husband Ron to check the numbers, too. They wound up taking the ticket to a Lottery retailer and scanning it there. The couple got great news! The message on the ticket scanner told them to head to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim their $625,000 prize!

Dawn and Ron are certainly no strangers to winning. Earlier this year, they won $2,500 playing Pick 4. The pair opted for the Multi-Match jackpot’s $312,500 cash option.

The avid pool players say the first things they’ll buy with the prize are pool accessories. “We need new pool sticks,” said Dawn, who works as a front counter clerk. “Then, we’ll start looking at pool tables to go along with those new pool sticks we’re going to get.”

They also plan to pay bills with their winnings and buy their first home. “Now we can get a house and we’ll need a nice space to put our soon-to-be pool table in,” she said. “This is such a blessing for us.”

The Royal Farm store at 8551 Fort Smallwood Road will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning Multi-Match ticket.

A retired Glen Burnie truck driver happily claimed the $1.35 million Multi-Match jackpot.

Claims $1.35 million jackpot prize from Jan. 16 drawing

A jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket worth a whopping $1.35 million might still be buried in the bottom of a purse, were it not for the winner’s daughter.

The Maryland Lottery enthusiast, who keeps up with the Lottery’s Facebook page, spotted a post saying the jackpot-winning ticket from the Jan. 16 drawing came from Atomoco in Glen Burnie. She relayed the information to her 72-year-old dad, who had visited that Lottery retailer to buy several Multi-Match and Mega Millions tickets.

The retired truck driver quickly had his wife check her purse, which is where all of their purchased Lottery tickets go. Just as quickly, the winner – who dubbed himself “C.H.” for publicity – knew that their lives would never be the same.

“My wife read the ticket over several times and then began to cry,” said C.H. The Glen Burnie resident is no stranger to winning, having claimed a $10,000 prize playing Pick 3 several years ago. This win, however, sets a new personal record.

The Anne Arundel County couple, married for nearly two decades, had just refinanced their home, C.H. said. They plan to pay off the mortgage and their other bills with the prize. Their lucky retailer will also share in their big win. Atomoco located at 7444 Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie will receive a $1,350 bonus from the Lottery for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

He’s the “Talk of the Town” on the Eastern Shore for buying the $1 million winning Multi-Match ticket in the March 23 drawing.

In-state jackpot game delivers exhilarating experience

Eastern Shore residents who are still buzzing about the $1 million winning Multi-Match ticket sold at 7-Eleven #19283 in Berlin in the March 23 drawing have a new reason to celebrate. Not only was the winning ticket sold locally, but it also was bought by a local Worcester County resident.

The new millionaire just claimed his big prize Friday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The home improvement worker was shocked to see he matched all six numbers on his Multi-Match ticket to become the second $1 million Multi-Match jackpot winner in 2017. Another happy player claimed a $1.35 million jackpot in the Jan. 16 Multi-Match drawing.

The happy handyman, calling himself  “The Talk of the Town,” told Lottery officials he began playing the $2 Multi-Match game in January. The Eastern Shore resident was attracted to the game’s low overall odds and chance at a big payoff. Less than three months later, both the game’s odds and jackpot caught up with him. Watching his lucky quick-pick numbers appear live was a startling experience that left the winner struggling to grasp what had just happened. When the results of the drawing sunk in, he couldn’t contain his joy.

“I just started laughing and it continued for nearly 10 minutes straight,” said the winner.

The lucky man stashed his ticket in his cookie jar and began calling family members to share his delight.

Multi-Match players can select or let the Lottery terminal select six numbers and receive two additional lines of Quick Pick numbers for $2. Players can often win on each of these lines in either of two methods. “The Talk of the Town” did just that, winning a $20 prize in addition to his $1 million on another line on his ticket.

“It just keeps getting better,” he said. “I live at the beach, so this win is the cherry on top.” He told Lottery officials he plans to save the prize and have a bit of fun with his winnings. In addition, he plans to share a bit of his good fortune with family members.

The win also is good news for the lucky retailer. The 7-Eleven #19283 located at 11055 Racetrack Road in Berlin will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a Multi-Match top-prize of $1 million.

Multi-Magic: Ellicott City Man Amazed at $725,000 Multi-Match Jackpot

Father of two claims third Multi-Match jackpot of 2017

An Ellicott City man could only muster three-letter exclamations, “Wow,” and “OMG” after checking his Multi-Match ticket this week.

The source of the sorcery that had his tongue so twisted? Just call it the “Multi-Magic” that occurred when his Multi-Match ticket matched all of the numbers in the April 27 drawing, delivering a $725,000 jackpot.

The 51-year-old retail worker said he often plays the Lottery’s jackpot games, including Multi-Match, which is drawn every Monday and Thursday and is exclusive to Maryland. He purchased a single Multi-Match ticket on the evening of April 27, but added that he didn’t examine the ticket or realize he had won until hearing from an acquaintance that the Lottery had announced a winning ticket had been sold for a recent Multi-Match drawing.

The Howard County resident was baffled when he compared his ticket with the drawing results and saw that one of the three lines of numbers on his ticket matched all of the winning numbers.

“I’ve always dreamed about winning the jackpot, but it just didn’t register,” said the lucky winner, a married father of two, who claimed the prize on May 3 at Lottery headquarters.

The couple’s older child is a college freshman and their younger child is searching for prospective colleges. The winner told Lottery officials that the prize will help to pay for college tuition and other expenses. Opting for the annuity, the lucky winner will receive 25 yearly payments of approximately $19,000 after taxes.

Are you searching for “Multi-Magic” of your own? You can try your luck at the site of the most recent jackpot win, the Towne & Country Liquor Shoppe located at 9639 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. The retailer is also a winner, earning a bonus of $1,000 for selling a jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket valued at less than $1 million.

The win marks the third Multi-Match jackpot hit in 2017. A lucky player in Glen Burnie won a $1.35 million jackpot in the Jan. 23 drawing, and a Worcester County resident was a $1 million winner in the March 23 drawing after buying a ticket in Berlin. The game produced seven jackpot winners in 2016.

Subscriber from Gaithersburg wins $500,000 Multi-Match jackpot

There were fireworks in the air for the Fourth of July, and in the days leading up to the holiday celebration, lightning struck three times for Multi-Match players.

On July 3, the Maryland Lottery’s twice-weekly in-state jackpot game produced a jackpot winner for the third consecutive drawing. The winner is a Gaithersburg resident who purchased a subscription to Multi-Match that included all six numbers drawn on July 3. Those numbers were: 7, 12, 14, 17, 32 and 33. Lottery officials will notify the subscriber and provide instructions on how to claim the prize. The winner will have the choice between an annuity of $500,000 or a lump sum payment of $250,000 (before taxes).

The subscriber’s win followed jackpot hits in the June 26 and June 29 drawings. The Lottery is still waiting for those two winners to come forward and claim their prizes.

The winner in the June 29 drawing also has the choice of a $500,000 annuity or a lump sum of $250,000 (before taxes). Broadway Pizza, located at 7965 Tuckerman Lane in Rockville, sold the winning ticket, which matched the six winning numbers: 8, 18, 29, 31, 35 and 37.

In the June 26 drawing, Cross Keys Exxon, located at 4434 Falls Road in Baltimore, sold the winning ticket, which included a line that matched the six winning numbers: 1, 4, 12, 22, 39 and 40. The winner of that drawing can choose between an annuity of $1 million, or a lump sum payment of $600,000 (before taxes).

Lottery officials encourage the winners to sign the backs of the tickets immediately and keep them in safe locations. Players have 182 days to claim the prizes in person at Lottery headquarters located at 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.

With these three hits, Multi-Match has now produced six jackpot winners during 2017. The other three were a Glen Burnie man who claimed a $1.35 million prize in the Jan. 16 drawing; a Berlin man who claimed a $1 million jackpot in the March 23 drawing; and an Ellicott City man who claimed a $725,000 prize in the April 27 drawing.

The top three jackpot wins in the game’s history were $4.8 million on Sept. 19, 2009; $4.45 million on March 18, 2010 and $3.8 million on Dec. 16, 2010.

Multi-Match, which launched in 2006, is a $2 game drawn on Monday and Thursday nights. The Lottery draws six winning numbers from 1 to 43. Players receive one line of six numbers that they can choose themselves, and the Lottery terminal randomly selects two additional lines of six numbers. Players must match between three and five numbers on any one line to win up to $1,000, and between five and 18 numbers total on all three lines combined to win up to $2,000 more. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers on any one line. The jackpot starts at $500,000 and increases after each drawing that does not produce a jackpot winner. The overall chances of winning are 1 in 8.5.
